LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day - June 17, 2025

Social Media Storm 2pm ET/11am PT

Equal Pay Today is partnering up with coalition members to raise awareness about the lack of wage gap data for LGBTQIA+ communities. On LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day, we join forces to challenge a system that devalues our labor, discriminates against our identities, and denies us the economic security we deserve. Together, we strive for a future where our contributions, regardless of gender identity, sex characteristics, or sexual orientation, are valued equally.

Our fight for equal pay takes an intersectional approach, acknowledging that economic insecurity is magnified for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, LGBTQIA+ people of color, LGBTQIA+ women, immigrants, and other marginalized identities. Together, we champion inclusive solutions that uplift all voices within our diverse community.

In another year marred by hundreds of pieces of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and an Administration targeting our community, we stand firm, raising our voices to address wage inequality and all its contributors, employment and housing discrimination, poverty, and scarcity that impact our diverse community. We stand together, united in our pursuit of justice and equality.

Our shared hashtags for the day will be #prideinyourpay and #LGBTQIAequalpay, and our shared call to action will be to defend our civil rights enforcement agencies and offices.

Federal agencies and offices, such as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor, and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) protect and support the right of all workers to be free from discrimination.  President Trump took unprecedented actions to fire officials at independent civil rights agencies, layoff hundreds of staff in offices, and undermine enforcement of existing protections, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community.

In particular, the recently renominated Acting EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas has made it clear that she does not plan to fully enforce employment protections for transgender and nonbinary workers and has threatened organizations seeking to promote diversity and inclusion in the workforce. Given the importance of the EEOC to the lives and livelihoods of millions of workers, the public deserves a transparent hearing and confirmation process to ensure the leaders tasked with this immense responsibility are held accountable to the people they serve. We urge Congress to use all of the tools at its disposal – from demanding nomination hearings to providing agency oversight to securing appropriations for enforcement for all – in order to restore and defend the critical missions of these agencies.
